If you are interested in buying a Manhattan Life Insurance Medicare supplement you’ll need to live in one of the 16 states where they offer plans. You’ll also have to choose from only five of the eleven standardized Medicare supplement plans sold today.

All insurance companies must offer Plan A but beyond that the plans offered are at the insurance company’s discretion. Manhattan Life Insurance Medicare supplement options include; Plans A, C, F, G, and N.

Legislation that becomes effective January 1, 2020 will eliminate Plan F and Plan C. If you choose to buy Manhattan Life Insurance Medicare supplement Plan F or Plan C prior to January 1, 2020 you will be grandfathered in.

Medicare Supplement Plan A

Manhattan Life offers Medicare supplement Plan A to comply with regulations that require insurance companies that sell Medicare supplemental policies to offer Plan A. Premiums for Plan A are typically low but this is reflected in the less than comprehensive nature of the coverage. Manhattan Life Medicare supplement Plan A will cover your inpatient hospital stay and basic Part B benefits but beyond that the financial responsibility is yours.

Medicare Supplement Plan C

Medicare supplemental Plan C is will no longer be available beginning January 1. 2020. Along with Plan F, Plan C pays you Part B deductible. Plan C does not cover Part B excess charges. The uncertainty of not knowing how much (if any) excess charges may be has made Plan F the choice of more people than Plan C.

Medicare Supplement Plan F

Manhattan Life Insurance Medicare supplement options are going to be greatly reduced beginning 2020 when Medicare supplement Plan F and Plan C won’t be sold unless they expand their line up. Medicare supplemental Plan F has been the most popular plan for a number of years. Plan F is currently the most comprehensive Plan but also has the highest premium.

Medicare Supplement Plan G

Many insurance companies are pushing Medicare supplemental Plan G as the best choice for people who want a comprehensive Medicare supplement that will be around for awhile. Plan G from Manhattan Life Insurance Company includes the same comprehensive coverage as Plan F minus the plan paying your Part B deductible. The Part B deductible for 2017 is $183 and should you buy Plan G you will be required to pay the deductible before receiving outpatient services. Outpatient services include; doctor’s visits, x-rays, labs, and diagnostic testing.

Medicare Supplement Plan N

Manhattan Life Insurance Medicare supplement Plan N is a good choice if you can handle a little out-of-pocket cost. Plan N comes with a lower premium because you pay up to a $20 copay for a doctor visit and up to a $50 copay for a visit to the emergency room. Plan N also does not pay any Part B excess charges. Some States do not allow providers to charge fess beyond what Medicare will pay. When Plan N was first introduced in 2010 many people saw it as an affordable alternative to a Medicare Advantage Plan.

Comparing Manhattan Life Insurance Medicare supplement plans

One benefit of shopping for and comparing Medicare supplement plans from different companies is the fact that Medicare supplements (also known as Medigap) are standardized plans. For instance, Manhattan Life Medicare supplement Plan G benefits will be the same as Plan G benefits from other companies.

A Medigap policy will (to varying degrees) pay a portion of your share of costs for Medicare-covered services. A Medigap policy will generally not cover services not covered by Medicare. You will be responsible for long term care, dental, vision, hearing aids, glasses and private duty nursing if required.
